“Thunderbolts”: Marvel’s Wild Card Mixes Antiheroes and Indie Talent From A24 & More
Recently, Florence Pugh, one of the stars of Marvel’s upcoming antihero epic Thunderbolts, said the Marvel Cinematic Universe installment was very unlike your average MCU addition. In fact, Pugh told Empire that Thunderbolts feels much more like an indie film.
“It ended up becoming this quite badass indie, A24-feeling assassin movie with Marvel superheroes,” Pugh told Empire.
This isn’t just one of the film’s marquee names trying to give her movie an edge at the box office.

Marvel’s antiheroes unleashed a new trailer during Sunday night’s Super Bowl (in which the Philadelphia Eagles decimated the Kansas City Chiefs). The Super Bowl trailer for Marvel’s Thunderbolts is set to Starship’s “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now,” with Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova/Black Widow feeling a lot less confident then we’ve seen her in the past. In fact, she needs her fellow ‘Bolts to give her a pep talk and get her head back in the game.

Steven Yeun will join the antihero epic Thunderbolts for Marvel Studios, The Hollywood Reporter scoops, in a juicy yet unspecified role. Yeun was nominated for an Oscar for his outstanding work in writer/director Lee Isaac Chung’s Minari, played a key role in Jordan Peele’s sci-fi horror Nope, and will star in Parasite director Bong Joon Ho’s upcoming sci-fi film Mickey 7.
