The Matrix 4 Gets Official Title As Warner Bros. Teases Trailer at CinemaCon
We are probably very close to see the first trailer for The Matrix 4, which Warner Bros. revealed during their CinemaCon event in Las Vegas but has yet to appear online. As we wait for the goods, we at least now know the film’s title—The Matrix Resurrections.
The Warner Bros. presentation at CinemaCon highlighted their indisputably epic upcoming slate. Not only did they reveal the first trailer for director Lana Wachowski’s The Matrix Resurrections (premiering December 22),
All the Warner Bros. Movies That Will Hit HBO Max & Theaters on Same Day in 2021
The big news to hit the entertainment world yesterday was that Warner Bros. will be sending all 17 of their 2021 films—including Dune, The Matrix 4, and The Suicide Squad—to HBO Max the same day they hit theaters. This unprecedented move, coming at the end of a year ravaged by the COVID-19 pandemic, was foregrounded by their decision to have Wonder Woman 1984 hit HBO Max on Christmas Day as well as theaters.
Welcome to Studio Babelsberg’s Rainbow Stage—A Tribute to Lana and Lilly Wachowski
“I’ll show these people what you don’t want them to see. A world without rules and controls, without borders or boundaries. A world where anything is possible.” Neo (Keanu Reeves), The Matrix, 1999
To honor the groundbreaking filmmakers Lana and Lilly Wachowski and simultaneously promote a message of tolerance, respect, and diversity, Germany’s Studio Babelsberg in Potsdam recently renamed its largest sound stage the Rainbow Stage (its previous title was number 20 of 21).
Keanu Reeves & Carrie-Anne Moss on The Matrix 4
It was in mid-May when we heard the hopeful news that the cast of The Matrix 4 had signed 8-week extensions, suggesting that Warner Bros. was feeling optimistic that the cast and crew could get back to filming in the near future. Principal photography had begun on Lana Wachowski’s fourth installment in her groundbreaking sci-fi saga back in February, starting in San Francisco and then moving to Berlin in mid-March.
The Matrix 4 Cast Signs 8-Week Extension
At this point, all news surrounding the reopening of our economy, and film productions, in particular, is incredibly fluid. Yet a new report from Variety at least suggests that studios are seeing some potential to begin filming—or in many cases to resume filming—in the near future. Variety’s Marc Malkin has the exclusive that The Matrix 4 cast has signed eight-week extensions, keeping the actors available until at least July 6.
The Matrix 4 and The Flash Get Release Dates
Now we know when two of Warner Bros. most hotly anticipated films will be hitting theaters. The Matrix 4, which just added Frozen II and Mindhunters star Jonathan Groff to the cast, will be premiering on May 21, 2021. Interestingly enough, this is the same release date for John Wick Chapter 4. Perhaps one will move up or back slightly so we’re not getting two major Keanu Reeves films on the same day (not that anyone would be complaining about that.)
As for The Flash,
Neil Patrick Harris Joins Cast of The Matrix 4
Now this is a piece of unexpected but delicious casting news. Variety reports that Neil Patrick Harris has joined the cast of The Matrix 4, making him the fourth big name to jump aboard Lana Wachowski’s hotly-anticipated return to the world of The Matrix she created with her sister Lily. Harris’s role is unknown, as is the latest addition to the cast,
The Matrix 4 Adds Aquaman‘s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II
The news surrounding The Matrix 4 keeps getting better and better. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who was so compelling as Black Manta in Aquaman and in this past season of Black Mirror‘s best episode, “Striking Vipers,” will be joining the rebooted Matrix franchise. Not only that, Variety has learned that Adbul-Mateen II has landed a lead role. He’ll be starring alongside returning champs Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss,
The Matrix 4 is a Reality! Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss & Lana Wachowski Returning
Time to take the red pill. While we’ve long thought that Warner Bros. would be rebooting The Matrix for a new generation, meaning, it would restart the seminal sci-fi franchise rather than carry on with the storyline that began with Lana and Lilly Wachowski’s game-changing 1999 film, we’re happy that that’s not the case. Variety reports that The Matrix 4 is the film Warner Bros. will be releasing,
