Disembodied: From Her to Ghost in the Shell, Scarlett Johansson’s Astonishing Disappearing Act

She’s spent much of her early career playing idealized, beautiful ingenues: from Woody Allen’s neurotic and effortless Nola Rice in Match Point to Joseph Gordon Levitt’s hoop-earringed “dime” in Don Jon, but Scarlett Johansson has never been totally comfortable being typecast as the gorgeous leading lady: “I’ve been able to use [my looks] to my advantage in some ways. In other ways, it can be very frustrating… I’ve always thought of myself as being a character actor,

How Ghost in the Shell ’s VFX Supervisor Got Cyberpunk Right

A cult hit since its manga origins, Rupert Sanders’s live-action Ghost in the Shell has had to meet high fan expectations, particularly in regard to visuals. The film is as well known for its gritty, near-future post-cyberpunk aesthetic thanks to Mamoru Oshii’s 1995 animated film, and as Paramount Picture’s Scarlett Johansson-driven feature arrived in theaters, a legion fans were more curious about what the movie would would like than the cybernetic-focused science fiction plot.

Ghost in the Shell‘s Mind Melting Official Trailer

Director Rupert Sanders Ghost in the Shell remake has been a long time in the coming. It began in 2008 when Steven Spielberg acquired the rights to a live-action adaptation of the original manga by Masamune Shirow. Eventually Sanders took over the project, with Scarlett Johansson stepping into the lead role. That role is a doozy; Johnson plays The Major, a Cyborg counter-cyberterrorist who leads the task force Section 9, with a goal of thwarting cyber criminals and hackers.

We Can’t Wait for Ghost in the Shell: Here are 5 Reasons Why

Here's something you might not know about Scarlett Johansson; she's fantastic in creepy sci-fi movies. And we're not even talking about Lucyin which she played an unwitting drug mule turned super powered cosmic goddess. No, we're talking about Jonathan Glazer's haunting Under the Skinwhere Johansson played an alien who harvests human beings for their skin.
