James Cameron Reveals “Avatar 3” Update
James Cameron and his team are busily working on the Avatar sequels, a statement that has been true for a long time now. Cameron revealed during a recent press conference in New Zealand moderated by 1News chief correspondent John Campbell that Avatar 3 is in a very crucial, very busy post-production phase at the moment.
“We’re into a very hectic two years of post-production right now,” Cameron told Campbell about the third film in his decades-spanning franchise.

Now that we know James Cameron’s Avatar 3 will definitely be coming to theaters thanks to the astonishing success of Avatar: The Way of Water (currently the fourth-highest-grossing movie of all time and climbing), a few crucial details about the sequels are coming to light. One major reason for this is Cameron and producer Jon Landau have continued to offer clues to some of the major plot points, and there’s also the fact that Cameron shot The Way of Water and Avatar 3 concurrently,
“Avatar 3” Will Introduce Evil Fire Na’vi
Avatar: The Way of Water greatly expanded the world of the alien planet of Pandora (technically, it’s an extrasolar moon) and its native inhabitants, the Na’vi. In the first film, James Cameron introduced us to the Omaticaya, the Na’vi forest tribe. In The Way of Water, with Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), Neytiri (Zoe Saldana), and their family having to flee the forest for the coast, we met the ocean-based Metkayina tribe.
Zoe Saldana has Wrapped Filming on Both Avatar 2 & 3
After almost 10 long years, James Cameron‘s Avatar sequels are really and truly happening. Word is that our beloved Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) has done what she needed to do—Saldana has wrapped filming on both of the sequels, Avatar 2 and Avatar 3, which are scheduled release is in 2020 and 2021, respectively. Last night at 20th Century Fox’s presentation at CineEurope, director James Cameron announced in a video clip that he is on day 130 of production on the Avatar sequels.
James Cameron’s Surprising Inspiration for the Avatar Sequels
There were some familiar storytelling elements in James Cameron’s 2009 Avatar, but as a master of movie technology, the visuals were groundbreaking. With four sequels in the works, it’s no surprise that Cameron doesn’t just have more of the same planned. The science fiction pioneer had to have some new material in mind to pursue such a mega project. We did not, however, anticipate this comparison.
