Steven Fabrizio Appointed MPAA Senior EVP and Global General Counsel

WASHINGTON- Senator Chris Dodd, Chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America, Inc (MPAA) announced today that Steven Fabrizio will be joining the association as its Senior Executive Vice President and Global General Counsel. Fabrizio is widely regarded as one of the preeminent copyright and content protection lawyers in the country, having represented the MPAA and its member companies for many years as lead outside counsel. Most recently, Fabrizio played a critical role in the MPAA’s legal victory over cyberlocker Hotfile.com, and was essential in negotiating the settlement that led to file-trading site Isohunt.com’s permanent shutdown. Fabrizio joins the MPAA from the DC office of Jenner & Block, where he is a senior partner and, for the past decade, has co-chaired their award winning Content, Media & Entertainment practice.

Fabrizio will oversee all legal, content protection and rights management programs within the MPAA, both domestically and around the world. He will assume his new position in early December.

“Steve has been one of the entertainment industry’s most effective advocates for years, and has the perfect blend of knowledge, skill, and experience to lead the MPAA’s already talented legal team,” said MPAA Chairman and CEO Senator Chris Dodd. “As the MPAA’s new Global General Counsel, he will continue to protect the rights of our industry’s creators and makers so they can do what they do best: tell stories that entertain audiences across the globe.”

“MPAA’s advocacy for its studio members is more important today than it has ever been,” said Fabrizio. “I am thrilled to be joining an MPAA team that I have respected and admired for many years.”

Among other recognitions, Fabrizio has been honored by the Washington Business Journal as the “Best Intellectual Property Lawyer in Washington,” and by The Hollywood Reporter as one of the top 100 entertainment “Power Lawyers” in America. Prior to his work at Jenner & Block, from 1996-2001, Fabrizio was the Senior Vice President, Business and Legal Affairs for the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). At the RIAA, Steve established and led the RIAA’s litigation department, and was a principal architect of the industry’s litigation strategies to combat online music piracy.

Fabrizio received both his undergraduate and law degrees from Georgetown University.
