Production of Paramount Pictures’ Daddy’s Home 2 Generated Over $19 Million for Massachusetts’s Economy
WASHINGTON – The production of Paramount Pictures’ film, Daddy’s Home 2, was responsible for a major boost to Massachusetts’s local economy, according to recent data from the studio. The film generated more than $19 million in local economic activity and hired over 2,800 local workers, who took home more than $10 million in wages.
MPAA CEO Charles H. Rivkin said, “The production of Daddy’s Home 2 demonstrates the powerful economic impact of film and television on local communities across the country. According to Paramount Pictures, the film supported more than 350 local businesses in communities across Massachusetts. Thanks to the state’s competitive production incentive program, our industry will continue to film on location in Massachusetts, creating high-paying jobs, generating revenue for the state, and driving economic growth.”
Daddy’s Home 2 spent over 100 days on location in Massachusetts, with a significant portion of the production’s spending going toward a wide array of in-state businesses and industries. Among others, key expenditures included:
- More than $2.7 million on local rentals and purchases for set decoration, production, and other supplies.
- More than $1.8 million on lodging
- More than $860,000 on transportation, including truck and car rentals
- More than $560,000 on catering, bakery goods and other food items
- More than $280,000 on hardware and lumber supplies
“For many years, Massachusetts has enjoyed a well-deserved reputation for being a great place to film movies,” said Congressman Richard E. Neal. “That’s why I was pleased when Paramount Pictures decided to shoot many scene’s from the major motion picture Daddy’s Home 2 in a variety of locations in the state, including Great Barrington. The production of this holiday comedy in the Commonwealth supported thousands of jobs, paid generous wages, and invested more than $19 million into the local economy. I know the food and service industry in Berkshire County particularly enjoyed the benefits of having the cast and crew in the region for several weeks. When Daddy’s Home 2 opens nationwide this weekend, the growth it generated for the Massachusetts economy should not be forgotten.”
“Productions like Daddy’s Home 2 have a tremendous impact on the economy of Massachusetts. The film employed hundreds of IATSE Local 481 members as technicians and artisans providing them jobs with good wages and health and retirement benefits. The production’s positive impact was also felt statewide by shooting in 16 different communities including Great Barrington, Westford, Lawrence, and Plymouth.” Added IATSE Local 481 Business Manager Chris O’Donnell.
