Pennywise Would Like to see you now in two new It Teasers
All indications point to Andy Muschietti’s It being one of the year’s scariest films. Written by Chase Palmer, writer/director extraordinaire Cary Fukunaga, and Gary Dauberman, the trailer and teasers we’ve seen thus far hint at perhaps the most terrifying Stephen King adaptation in years, with an R rating to prove it.
It follows a group of teenagers in Derry Main who are assaulted by It, a malevolent force whose favorite form is that of Pennywise the Dancing Clown (Bill Skarsgard). It’s ability to shape shift is a crucial point, one that Muschiette told USA Today. “He doesn’t have a steady behavior, he doesn’t expose how he thinks, and that’s what makes him really unpredictable,” Muschietti said. While It stalks the “The Loser’s Club,” he takes the form of their worst fears.
The Losers Club is made up of Bill Denbrough (Jaeden Lieberher), overweight Ben Hanscom (Jeremy Ray Taylor), loudmouth Richie Tozier (Finn Wolfhard), clean freak Stan Uris (Wyatt Oleff), history lover Mike Hanlon (Chosen Jacobs), hypochondriac Eddie Kaspbrak (Jack Dylan Grazer) and tomboy Beverly Marsh (Sophia Lillis). Muschietti’s It focuses on the first half of King’s tome, when the members of the Loser’s Clubs were kids. If the film succeeds, there will be a sequel (rumors suggest it’s already being filmed) that will track the main characters 30 years later, as they face off against Pennywise as adults.
From everything we’ve seen thus far, It will scare the pants of people.
It opens September 8th.
