May the 4th be With You With Some Star Wars: The Last Jedi News
Every year on this day, we join in the global celebration of Star Wars day. That's right, May the 4th be with you, dear readers, on this holy cinematic holiday. As we say every year, today's the day where being as big of a Star Wars geek as possible is not only acceptable, but encouraged. If you're unaware of the origins of Star Wars day, a brief historical primer: The apocryphal story is that the first reference came on May 4, 1979, the day Margaret Thatcher became the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. The story goes that the Conservatives, her political party, took out an ad in the London Evening News that read "May the Fourth Be with You, Maggie. Congratulations." Yet this advertisement, as far as we can tell, has never resurfaced online. If you can find a photo of it, please share it.
What we can share with you, however, are these new video interviews done by the Steele Wars podcast, created by a very charming Australian chap named Steele Saunders who is an unabashed Star Wars fan with some seriously great access. Saunders got Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Kelly Marie Tran to discuss a bit about what to expect in the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
Ridley discusses the parallels beteween her own life and Rey's journey. Boyega suggests that fans should really think hard about Luke Skywalker's words regarding how the Jedi should end. (He's also pressed on what it's like sharing a stage, and screen time with Mark Hamill.) And finally Tran, who plays a character named Rose, cops to not being a huge Star Wars fan growing up, but how quickly she learned about the incredible amount of passion there is for the franchise.
“Once you’re a part of this world and you’re attending all these events, I went to the [Star Wars] celebration under cover, there’s so much respect for it and so much love from the fan base, it’s just incredible,” Tran says.
