Motion Picture Association Statement on Confirmation of Marco Rubio as Secretary of State
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Senate today confirmed Marco Rubio as Secretary of State. The following is a statement from the Motion Picture Association:
“The Motion Picture Association welcomes the Senate’s confirmation of Marco Rubio as the 72nd Secretary of State – our leading steward of foreign policy, international engagement, diplomacy, and cooperation across the globe.
“Our industry is truly global in how it amplifies storytelling, enriches cultures and economies, and reflects core American values. It is a vital instrument of U.S. diplomacy – and for the MPA, our member studios, and the creative community, meaningful efforts by the State Department can open markets for our films, embrace fair market conditions, and preserve free expression around the world.
“Achieving those objectives is as pivotal to the entertainment sector as it is to our nation’s leadership, and we stand ready to work with Secretary Rubio to reach our common goals.”
