2024 Honorees
J.A. Bayona
Director, Producer, Screenwriter
Juan Antonio Bayona has established himself as one of Spain’s most acclaimed filmmakers, resonating with audiences and critics all over the world. His debut film, The Orphanage, premiered at the Festival de Cannes in 2007 where it received a standing ovation. In 2012, he directed The Impossible, which won five Goya Awards, including Best Director, and was nominated for the Oscar and Golden Globe awards in the category of Best Actress for Naomi Watts. In 2016 he directed A Monster Calls, followed by Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the fifth installment of the Jurassic Park film series. His latest film, the Academy Award nominated Society of the Snow, has been celebrated for its deep humanism and technical prowess, won twelve Goya Awards, and is a testament to his mastery of the craft.
“I want to thank the MPA for recognizing my creative work, which I hope stirs new ideas that cause people to think and feel differently. As filmmakers, we try to tell stories that matter, stories that can make a real difference in the world,” said Bayona. “I’ve devoted my career to creating films that make a real difference, and I deeply appreciate the MPA for honoring my efforts.”

Spanish National Police
The National Police is an armed institute of a civilian nature, with a hierarchical structure whose mission is to protect the free exercise of rights and freedoms and guarantee citizen security, with a scope of action throughout the national territory.
“As we celebrate our 200th anniversary, the Spanish National Police continues to expand our ability to combat the evolving menace of digital piracy, which drains Spain’s economy, endangers our citizens and poses an existential threat to our creative community,” said Francisco Pardo, the police force’s Director-General. “We are proud of our successful efforts on this front, and we thank the MPA for recognizing this important work.”
Nadia Calviño
Nadia Calviño is the President of the European Investment Bank Group since January 1st, 2024. She served as First Vice President of Spain and Minister for Economy and Digitalization (2018-2023), and as Chair of the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC) of the IMF (2022-2023). Before joining the Spanish government, Mrs. Calviño had a 12-year tenure at the European Commission as Deputy Director General for Competition, Deputy Director General for Financial Services, and Director General for the EU Budget. She holds degrees in Economics (1991) and Law (2001).
“I’m really honored to be recognized by the MPA for my unwavering support to the audiovisual industry. It is a key sector with strong value added to our economy, our society and culture,” Calviño said. “The MPA Award shows the importance of championing the arts, and I look forward to continuing to support talent, innovation and diversity in my new position as President of the EIB.”
