Lady Gaga Will Sing Tom Cruise Into the Danger Zone With New “Top Gun: Maverick” Song
Top Gun: Maverick is getting the James Bond treatment. While you may think exclusively of Kenny Loggins’ “Danger Zone” when you think of Top Gun, soon, you’ll be thinking of Lady Gaga. The superstar is creating an original theme song for Top Gun: Maverick, much in the way every new movie in the James Bond franchise gets a big star to belt out a new song for the latest installment. It’s hard to argue that Gaga isn’t the perfect person to set the tone for the new Top Gun, which finds Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) called back into action by the Navy to help school up some promising young Top Gun pilots before a crucial mission.
So what will Gaga’s Top Gun: Maverick song sound like? We don’t know yet. What we do know is the song’s title, “Hold My Hand,” and Gaga herself provided a few lyrics via Twitter:
Hold my hand everything will be ok I heard from the heavens that clouds have been grey

Pull me close wrap me in your aching arms I see that you’re hurtin’

Gaga is a movie star herself, and she’ll know precisely what kind of mood and tempo she needs to set to give Top Gun: Maverick its pitch-perfect musical signature. Considering the film deals with Maverick having to face the worst crisis of his life—the time he lost his best friend and Radar Intercept Officer, Goose (Anthony Edwards)—when his son, call sign Rooster (Miles Teller) is one of the young pilots he’s tasked with teaching confronts him. The first Top Gun was, of course, a movie of its era (the 1980s), so it didn’t shy away from not only big shoulder pads, big hair, and a deathless, shirtless volleyball scene, but bigtime emotions, too. The sky’s literally the limit for Gaga, who can take her song in so many directions.
Variety reports that Gaga’s song “Hold My Hand” will be featured throughout the film. Top Gun: Maverick‘s score is a collaboration between composers Harold Faltermeyer and Oscar-winner Hans Zimmer, with additional score work by Lorne Balfe.
We’ll know more about Gaga’s song as zoom closer to Top Gun: Maverick‘s May 27 premiere date.
