Motion Picture Association Statement on the Passing of AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka

WASHINGTON – The following is a statement on the passing of AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka from Motion Picture Association Chairman and CEO Charles Rivkin:

“We are deeply saddened by the passing today of Richard Trumka, president of the AFL-CIO, a giant in the American labor community for half a century and a longtime friend of the film, television and streaming production industry. Our thoughts and condolences are with his wife Barbara and his son Richard.

“As head of the AFL-CIO, Rich was a tireless champion and fierce fighter for American workers, including thousands of union members who work on productions. His leadership and advocacy helped enact and expand production incentive programs in states around the country that continue to create thousands of jobs and generate much-needed economic growth. Together, we fought to pass the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement (USMCA), which improved protections for creators in today’s fast-changing digital economy.

“We’ll miss Rich Trumka, but we remain grateful for his friendship and all that we have achieved together.”
