John Boyega & Brie Larson get BAFTA Noms, Ricky Gervais on Hosting the Globes & More
Your 2016 Golden Globes host, Ricky Gervais, has notoriously used his previous Globes gigs to lampoon (or eviscerate, depending upon your perspective) everyone from Hollywood royalty to the universally loved Steve Carrell (this bit was hilarious—he roasted Carrell for being so "amazing" on The Office, a show he created). Gervais has routinely blasted the Globes itself, like in this quip; "For any of you who don't know, the Golden Globes are just like the Oscars, but without all that esteem." He also once said that he had to help the Hollywood Foreign Press's President put on his dentures and get off the toilet. Well, this year, Gervais has told The Hollywood Reporter he's still not sure what all the fuss has been about, and he genuinely looks forward to his hosting gig. As for his "reasons" behind his barbed humor during his gigs, he had this to say; "But I made the decision: Do I pander to 200 fragile egos in the room or 200 million people watching at home? There’s nothing in it for the people watching at home. They’re not winning awards. It’s not a spectator sport watching other people win awards, so I tried to make it one."
