Motion Picture Association Statement on Confirmation of Janet Yellen as Secretary of Treasury
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Senate today confirmed Janet Yellen as the next Treasury Secretary. The following is a statement from Charles Rivkin, Chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association:
“The Motion Picture Association congratulates Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on her overwhelmingly bipartisan Senate confirmation today. Secretary Yellen will play a critical role in driving our nation’s economic recovery in the midst of a global pandemic, which has created unprecedented challenges for the film, television, and streaming industry.
“The MPA and its member studios have led the way during this challenging time in supporting our workforce and the larger industry, which supports 2.5 million jobs and 280,000 businesses across all 50 states. We hope that Secretary Yellen will continue to ensure that fiscal and monetary policy incentivizes domestic film and television production. Production epitomizes the shovel-ready projects necessary to jump-starting the recovery. For example, on-location movies inject $250,000 per day into a local economy.
“We look forward to working with Secretary Yellen on the ‘big’ action crucial to driving growth and supporting jobs within the creative economy.”
