It’s that time again, folks—we’ve got another Film School Friday event for you today, and it’s a really, really good one. Today’s event features a conversation with documentarian Sonia Lowman about her new documentary Black Boys, which came out on Peacock on August 16. Lowman and her Black Boys producer Jon-Thomas Royston will be in conversation with former Executive Director of My Brother’s Keeper Conan Harris and the Motion Picture Association’s Vice President of External and Multicultural Affairs John Gibson. The event will kick off with an introduction from MPA Chairman and CEO Charles Rivkin.
The timely Black Boys aims to reveal the full spectrum of humanity for Black boys and men in America, weaving their stories through an intergenerational conversation at the intersection of education, sports, and criminal justice. Marking 400 years since enslaved Africans arrived in Jamestown, “Black Boys” illuminates the full spectrum of Black male humanity in America through an intimate, intergenerational conversation at the intersection of sports, education, and criminal justice. The film elevates an urgent and timely reckoning on identity, opportunity, and equity to reimagine success for Black males in America while also touching on their vulnerability and resilience in the face of dehumanization.
