Kylo Ren Taunts the Resistance in new Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker TV Spot
Not one but two new Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker TV spots have arrived for you to feast your eyes on. We are a mere four days away from the premiere of co-writer/director J.J. Abrams film, the 9th and final entry into the epic Skywalker Saga. The spots include fresh footage of Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) fighting Rey (Daisy Ridley), and what appears to be a massive setback for Rey and the Resistance. They also hint at how the bad guys in the First Order seem to know a lot more about our heroes’ past and future than they do.
The first spot, “Secret,” is about the relationship between Kylo and Rey, which has been nearly as complicated and galactically important as the relationship between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker was. Kylo seems to know quite a bit about Rey’s past—the problem is, can she trust what he tells her? “I know the rest of your story,” Kylo says to her. He sure had a lot to say on the subject of her parents in Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi, and word is we’ll get a definitive answer as to who they are in The Rise of Skywalker.

In a second spot that aired last night, “Voices,” we’re treated to the unmistakable voice of Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) saying, “This will be the final word in the story of Skywalker,” with visuals of the epic battle between the First Order and the Resistance. Seems like all the bad guys in the First Order got a hold of the script—unless, of course, they’re all proven wrong. This spot is also harrowing for the Resistance. A shot of Poe (Oscar Isaac) screaming while watching an X-Wing go down, for instance, speaks of major losses to come. All of these spots have shown us an overwhelming show of force by the First Order, who have way, way more numbers than the Resistance does.
