Here’s Every Marvel Film on Disney + Right Now
At long last, Disney + officially launched yesterday. One of the biggest draws was The Mandalorian, the first-ever live-action Star Wars series. Considering Star Wars is one of Disney’s most galactically popular franchises, it makes all the sense in the world that The Mandalorian (which folks really like so far) would draw so much attention. A series that looks and feels as epic in scope as a Star Wars film? Exciting. Yet Disney has another epic franchise at their disposal—the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
There are ten plus years worth of MCU action that Disney + has at their disposal. Well, mostly. Some of the movies aren’t available right now, and some (like all the Spider-Man films) won’t be available anytime soon.
If you’re wondering why certain titles are already available, like Avengers: Endgame, but not Avengers: Infinity War, it has to do with Netflix. They struck a massive deal in which Disney films start pouring onto the giant streaming service in 2016. Yet Disney + was always in the works, so the idea was that the Disney titles would live on Netflix for a while, then eventually return home.
This means that a few major titles are still going to be living with Netflix, like Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Pixar’s Coco. For the MCU, Netflix retains the streaming rights to some really big titles. You’ll notice in the list below where the gaps appear.
Here’s the current list of MCU movies available on Disney+ right now, with a mini-list of some of the big titles that will make their way onto the new streaming service soon:
Iron Man (2008)
Iron Man 2 (2010)
Thor (2011)
Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
Avengers (2012)
Iron Man 3 (2013)
Thor: The Dark World (2013)
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
Ant-Man (2015)
Captain America: Civil War (2016)
Doctor Strange (2016)
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)
Captain Marvel (2019)
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
You noticed a few glaring exceptions. Black Panther, Thor: Ragnarok, Infinity War, and Ant-Man and the Wasp are going to be on Netflix for a while longer. As for the Spider-Man films, they’re owned by Sony, and as of right now there’s no plan to get them on Disney +.
Those four marquee MCU titles do have premiere dates for Disney +, however.
Thor: Ragnarok is due on December 5, 2019.
Black Panther is due on March 4, 2020.
Avengers: Infinity War is due on June 25, 2020.
Ant-Man and the Wasp is due on July 29, 2020.
