Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood Returning to Theaters With Bonus Footage
It seems like a million years ago because time hasn’t behaved normally since around 2016, but, Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood was a really interesting, fun film that came out this summer. “Fun” in the Tarantino sense; which means intense, complicated, and curious. Tarantino once again played with actual history—this time Hollywood in 1969 and the murder of Sharon Tate and her friends by the Manson family—and created something indelible. Now, Sony Pictures has revealed that the auteur’s love letter to a bygone Hollywood is being re-released, and with bonus material, to boot.
Adrian Smith, President of Domestic Distribution of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, has promised that the film will be back in theaters “with never-before-seen footage bookending the motion picture. The reissue with over 10 minutes of four additional scenes.” Here’s a more fullsome statement:
“Audiences have shown tremendous support for this movie, and we look forward to offering them another opportunity to see the film as it’s meant to be seen – in theaters on the big screen – with more sights and sounds of the sixties from Quentin Tarantino as an added treat,” said Adrian Smith, President of Domestic Distribution, Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group.
While the internet is currently awash in legendary directors like Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola opining on the merits of Marvel movies, it’s a nice reminder that there are, in fact, other films to discuss, and other big time directors making films about all sorts of stuff that has nothing to do with superheroes. One imagines that Tarantino himself would probably have a lot of fun directing a Marvel movie—so long as it was R-rated, of course.
