New Terminator: Dark Fate Clips Highlights What Makes Latest Installment Rock
The critics have been hailing Terminator: Dark Fate as the best installment in the iconic franchise since James Cameron’s T2: Judgement day, and a new clip from Paramount highlights one main reason people are loving director Tim Miller’s film. Epic battles beautifully crafted, the glorious return of Linda Hamilton’s Sarah Connor, and the introduction of Mackenzie Davis as Grace, a “machine fighter” who is as tough as any Terminator character, ever.
Grace is the main highlight of the new clip—along with Gabriel Luna’s highly advanced Terminator—as they tear down a highway. Grace is defending Dani Ramos (Natalia Reyes), the object of this new Terminator’s homicidal obsession. Highways are a classic Terminator venue, dating back to Cameron’s Judgement Day when Arnold Schwarzenegger’s T-800 tried to help Sarah Connor and her son John (Edward Furlong, also back in Dark Fate) survive their fight with Robert Patrick’s T-1000. That makes this scene a bit of a callback while giving us a brand new hero in Grace. As i09‘s Jill Pantozi put in her review, the post-Judgement Day future of the franchise is female.

This clip is excellent, and it ratchets up a glorious amount of tension without the film’s two big names even in the frame. We’re talking about Linda Hamilton’s return to the franchise—which has been hailed as absolutely key to the success and joy of Dark Fate. Sarah Connor’s not the only back in fighting form, however; Arnold Schwarzenegger T-800 is here, and grizzled, and “retired.” It gets better—he goes by the name Carl. Sarah refuses to call him that, however.
