Michelle Williams Reprising Role as Anne Weying/She-Venom in Venom 2
One of the best moments from Ruben Fleischer’s 2018’s hit Venom was when the alien symbiote that had, up until then, possessed Anne Weying (Michelle Williams)’s ex-husband Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) glommed onto her. This was right before the film’s big third act fight. Had Anne not become into She-Venom, Eddie Brock would have bit the dust. The results, while brief, were thrilling—She-Venom dispatched a bad guy and helped Eddie get to the bigger fight against Carnage (Woody Harrelson). Now we’ve learned, thanks to Yahoo!, that Williams will be back for Venom 2. The sequel has been getting a lot of press in the last few days, thanks to the addition of a new director; the super talented Andy Serkis. Williams confirmed with Yahoo! that she’s excited to be a part of a Serkis-led sequel.
“I’m such a fan of Andy’s, and I’m so inspired by what he’s been able to accomplish,” she told Yahoo!. “He’s so gifted in such a specific way, and I’m very excited to learn from him and be around him.”
Will Williams’ Anne Weying be spending more time in her alien symbiote form? In Venom, Anne’s transformation into She-Venom was both shocking and funny. She bites a bad guy’s head off, then kisses her ex Eddie in the first symbiote-human onscreen smooch in history. Williams sounds like she’s eager to see She-Venom mixing it up in the sequel.
“I hope I get equal time that way — I can say that!”
With Serkis’s expertise with visual effects (specifically motion-capture technology) and Williams returning to the fold and eager to see her character get more chances to symbiote-out, there’s a good chance we’ll be seeing more She-Venom ahead. In the meantime, you can see Williams in After the Wedding next, which will be released this Friday, August 9, from Sony Pictures Classics.
