Listen to Beyoncé’s Single “Spirit” From The Lion King

The early reactions to the new, gorgeously rendered The Lion King hail a masterpiece of visual storytelling. Among the many aspects of director Jon Favreau’s updated take on the 1994 animated classic that wowed the critics was Beyoncé‘s turn as the lioness Nala. Now you can listen to Bey’s new single from the film, “Spirit,” which will be a part of an album she’s producing and curating for The Lion King. The song appears at a crucial moment in the film, with Beyoncé’s Nala taking on an expanded role. “Spirit” was written for the film by Ilya Salmanzadeh, Timothy McKenzie and Beyoncé. It was produced by Beyoncé and IIya and Labrinth.

Disney announced the full soundtrack on Instagram, which will be released on July 19. Titled The Lion King: The Gift, the soundtrack features a slew of artists from around the world.

“This is sonic cinema,” Beyoncé said in a statement announcing the album. “This is a new experience of storytelling. I wanted to do more than find a collection of songs that were inspired by the film. It is a mixture of genres and collaboration that isn’t one sound. It is influenced by everything from R&B, pop, hip hop, and Afro Beat.”
