Bond 25 Story Details & Full Cast Revealed
We’ve finally got some details for Bond 25 (yet no title yet). The film’s producers filled us in on casting, story details, and filming locations during a live event from the Goldeneye estate in Jamaica. Yup, Goldeneye is, in fact, a real place—it’s where Ian Fleming wrote the James Bond novels. Today, it functioned as the epicenter of all things Bond 25.
Here’s what we’ve known for a while. Daniel Craig is, of course, back in the title role. The film is being directed by Cary Fukanaga (Beasts of No Nation), and the script comes from Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Scott Z. Burns, Neal Purvis, and Robert Wade. Waller-Bridge’s involvement, in particular, is exciting; she’s an incredibly talented writer (Fleabag) and performer, and we’re thrilled to imagine what kind of mischief she’ll have Bond getting into here.
Here’s what we’ve learned. The film opens with Bond no longer on active service for the MI6. He’s cooling his heels in Jamaica, no doubt having a grand old time when his Caribbean idyll is ruined by an American. Been there! Here’s the official synopsis:
Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.
The great Jeffrey Wright is reprising his role as Leiter. He’s been mucking it up with Bond since Craig’s first turn in the role in Casino Royale.
We also learned the film will be shot on location in Jamaica, Norway, Matera, Italy, and the massive Pinewood Studios in England.
Now let’s turn to the cast. It’s excellent. Returning alongside Craig are Bond alums Ralph Fiennes, Lea Seydoux, Ben Whishaw, Naomi Harris, Rory Kinnear, and Jeffrey Wright. The new folks joining the franchise include Dali Benssalah, Billy Magnussen, Ana De Armas, David Dencik, Lashana Lynch, and Rami Malek. Malek seemed to confirm in a video that he’s the villain. There would be some synergy here. The Bond 25 villain is an ace with technology. Malek made his name playing a super hacker in Mr. Robot.
Production begins officially on April 28. Bond 25 is due in American theaters on April 8, 2020.
