The Final Avengers: Endgame Trailer is Emotional & Epic
“Heroes. It’s an old fashioned notion.”
These words come from the late Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), who perished in the post-credits scene in Avengers: Infinity War in the midst of sending one very important message. The final trailer for Avengers: Endgame is a chills-inducing epic for any fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It connects the marquee films in the MCU’s decade-long, 22-film arc, building to the emotional—and for some characters possibly final—fight of their lives.
Our major players are re-introduced to us as they were in the very beginning. Tony Stark: “A visionary. A genius. Ensuring freedom around the globe.” Captain America: “A symbol to the nation. A hero to the world.” Thor: “A beacon of hope. Shining out across the stars.”
We’re not only reminded of our survivors, but also the heroes lost when Thanos snapped them out of existence (or killed them with his bare hands). Black Panther, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Vision, and the Guardians of the Galaxy are all represented here. These are the friends that the Avengers have lost. These are just some of the lives the Avengers are fighting to restore.
Avengers: Endgame is the culmination of what initially seemed like an impossible gambit. Creating an interconnected “universe” of films, populated by major stars, spanning years (and, to some degree, different genres) was wildly ambitious. Of course, not every film can be a winner, but the degree to which Marvel has succeeded is astonishing. Endgame will attempt to tie all of these films together, more or less.
“If we can’t protect the earth, you can be damned sure we’ll avenge it,” Captain America says towards the end of the very effective final trailer. We’ll find out what exactly this looks like in a little less than two weeks.
Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26.
