New Avengers: Endgame International Teaser Brings us Back to the Snap
It would be a lie to say it feels like yesterday when Thanos (Josh Brolin) shocked the world by beating the Avengers and destroying half of life in the universe. The Thanos snap, of course, was the somber ending to in the Russo Brother’s Avengers: Infinity War. Time has not exactly flown since then, yet the effects of that snap still feel fresh. It’s been almost a year since that game-changing conclusion, and soon enough we’ll see both the fallout from the snap and what comes next. Looking back, the decision to not only have the bad guy win but win decisively and take out some of the most marquee superheroes in the process seems brilliant. Why? Because it sets up the upcoming Avengers: Endgame beautifully, raising the stakes and presenting our survivors with a seemingly impossible problem; how do they bring all those people back? They’ve got a few friends who sat out Infinity War who are back to help—they’re going to need it.
In a new Endgame teaser titled “End is Near,” takes us back to that fateful moment. Re-watching superheroes turned to dust and the world at large spinning out of control as people disintegrated, cars crashed and planes fell out of the sky brings you right back to the theater nearly a year ago. It’s a potent, disturbing reminder to say the least.
“Call control,” Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) tells his trusted associate Maria Hill (Colbie Smulders). They’re watching helicopters plummeting and suddenly driverless cars crashing in New York City, but it’s too late. Maria is fading away, and in short order Fury will, too. Of course not before he sends one crucial message.
The teaser is a stark reminder of just why our survivors are so depleted, depressed, and furious. You can relive watching just about all of them go. The lost include Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), and Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman). The teaser ends with Strange’s now deathless, descriptive comment before he died—”We’re in the end game now.”
Indeed we are. Avengers: Endgame opens on April 26.
