The First Toy Story 4 Trailer Asks Life’s Deepest Questions
Cinema has bridged cultural gaps and given a voice to generations. It has touched the depths of our fears and the limits of our imagination. It can challenge, empower, and change minds. With all that movies have given us, I am prepared to make this bold statement without reservation. There will never be a film that asks deeper questions than the Toy Story series.

Toy Story 4 promises to be another heart-wrenching story of love and loss. We are officially past the era of Andy and into the Bonnie age. Just when you thought there were no more plotlines to explore relating to civilization among toys, there arrives a challenging new tale of discovering your purpose and finding your place. Seriously.
They may just look like playthings, but the arrival of a newcomer throws what we thought we knew about toys into question. This isn’t a rehash of the Woody (Tom Hanks) vs. Buzz (Tim Allen) rivalry. The newest toy was created by Bonnie from popsicle sticks, pipe cleaner, and a plastic spork. His name is Forky (Tony Hale) and he’s got a fatalistic attitude that he’s not meant to even exist.
Far beyond Bonnie’s room, Bo Peep (Annie Potts) has discovered an alternate way to live. A carnival offers a rotating field of children and it may the enlightened path forward. But watch out for terrifying antique dolls and dummies. Just when Woody is accepting his new home, he may be tempted away. Could Forky actually be the voice of reason?
Then the trailer starts in with “God Only Knows” by the Beach Boys and it is over for me. I’m not sure how I’ll make it through the entire film when I had to pause and blow my nose halfway through the trailer. I don’t even know Forky yet, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything more tender than when he whispers in Woody’s ear.
A summary of the things I anticipate we’ll discover through Toy Story 4: Does what you’re made to do define you? Can you change course along the way? And how do you know if you’re changing for the better or losing your way? I am not kidding and if you cannot take this seriously, you better just sit this one out.
Toy Story 4 will answer all of life’s burning questions in theaters June 21.
