Octavia Spencer Goes off the Deep End in MA Trailer
It is said there is nothing easier than taking candy from a baby. If you watch the new MA trailer, however, you’ll find there is nothing easier than giving teenagers booze. That is what makes them easy targets for a diabolic plot to lure them in and torture them.
Is there no limit to Octavia Spencer’s range? She is one of the most universally beloved actresses in America, but we will never look at her the same way again.
After luring in a group of high school students, Sue Ann (Spencer) begins to show signs of obsession. Most of her guests are enjoying the party, but Maggie (Diana Silvers) begins to sense something is off. Turns out, she’s right. If you thought the chocolate pie from The Help was devious, just wait until you see what Spencer does to these kids. In the trailer alone she runs someone down with her truck, slaps wall paint on a young man’s face, and sews a young lady’s lips together.
The intent here isn’t totally clear as she seems to be stealing, infiltrating her victims’ lives, and actively torturing them. Regardless, we won’t be in the mood for a house party for a good long while.
Ma also stars Juliette Lewis, Luke Evans, Allison Janney, and Missi Pyle. Here’s the official synopsis:
Everybody’s welcome at Ma’s. But good luck getting home safe.
Oscar® winner Octavia Spencer stars as Sue Ann, a loner who keeps to herself in her quiet Ohio town. One day, she is asked by Maggie, a new teenager in town (Diana Silvers, Glass), to buy some booze for her and her friends, and Sue Ann sees the chance to make some unsuspecting, if younger, friends of her own. She offers the kids the chance to avoid drinking and driving by hanging out in the basement of her home. But there are some house rules: One of the kids has to stay sober. Don’t curse. Never go upstairs. And call her “Ma.” But as Ma’s hospitality starts to curdle into obsession, what began as a teenage dream turns into a terrorizing nightmare, and Ma’s place goes from the best place in town to the worst place on earth.
Ma hits theaters May 31.
