The Avengers: Endgame Super Bowl Spot Delivers New Footage

“Some people move on. But not us.”

These are the somber but still stirring words that open the Avengers: Endgame Super Bowl spot. We first glimpse an eerily blue-lit, dark New York City skyline. The city’s famous skyline still stands tall, but it feels emptied and immeasurably sad. We know why this is, of course. The surviving members of the Avengers are scattered and broken (in more ways than one), but they are still not quite beaten. They are spoiling for another crack at Thanos, the intergalactic supervillain who killed so many of their friends (and half the population of the universe) in Infinity War.

The survivors are mainly the original Avengers we met in Joss Whedon’s 2012 game-changer: Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, and Hulk. They’ve got Rocket, the only survivor of his Guardians of the Galaxy cohort, too. They’ll also be getting some major help (we assume) in the form of one super powerful pilot/Kree warrior. They’ll need all the help they can get considering Thanos has all six Infinity Stones and can seemingly control every aspect of reality.

The footage is completely new. It’s dark and sad. It also seems to indicate that we won’t be picking up at the precise moment Infinity War ended, but rather after enough time has passed that the world is already trying to come to grips with how to handle the loss. With Captain Marvel due in theaters on March 8, it’s a safe bet we won’t be seeing much footage from Endgame that takes place in the second or third acts when we’re guessing she appears.

There’s still a lot to parse here. Avengers: Endgame opens on April 26, 2019, and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Paul Rudd, Don Cheadle, Karen Gillan, and Brie Larson.
