Oscar Isaac Could Be Joining the Incredible Cast of Dune

If anyone knows how to thrive on an alien planet, it is Oscar Isaac. The Golden Globe-winning actor plays ace pilot Poe Dameron in the new Star Wars trilogy and is now bound for a new desert planet. No, not Tatooine. Isaac is possibly heading to Arrakis.

Variety reports that Isaac has his sights set on the upcoming highly anticipated adaptation of Dune. Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve is reimagining Frank Herbert’s classic novel with what is turning out to be a stellar cast.

Timothee Chalamet is set to star as Paul Atreides, the son in a family that is sworn to protect the planet Arrakis and its valuable supply of the drug, mélange. Like Star Wars, there is some interplanetary feuding and there are other families that want the job. Isaac is expected to play Chalamet’s father, Duke Leto Atreides. Although being cast as Chalamet’s father is a bit of stretch, we’re pumped to see these two together on screen.

The biggest threat to the Atreides’ sovereignty is a longtime rival, Baron Harkonnen, played by Stellan Skarsgard. When the Harkonnens attack, young Paul is forced to flee and team up with the planet’s natives to defend the natural resource.

If you thought that was enough name dropping, brace yourself. Here come some more. Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, and Charlotte Rampling have also been cast. This is truly an A-list cast through and through.

Dune is one of the most beloved science fiction stories ever written. There is no release date set for the project, but we hope it comes soon. This is going to be a very special project. In the meantime, Isaac will appear in Triple Frontier on Netflix and voice a role in The Addams Family animated movie. Of course, he will reprise his role as Dameron in Star Wars: Episode IX this December.

If you’re wondering whether Dune will be Isaac’s first time playing an alien, well, no. He had a crucial, creepy role in Alex Garland’s mind-bending sci-fi thriller Annihilation last year.
