The Intriguing Questions the Spider-Man: Far From Home Trailer Will Raise
There’s been a lot for fans of the superhero genre to be excited about recently. Okay, if we’re being factual, there’s been a lot for superhero fans to be excited about for the last, oh, decade, but we’re referring to specific things that have been revealed in the past few weeks. These include the gushing reception to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the early reactions to the swashbuckling epic that is Aquaman, and, just yesterday, the cosmic second trailer for Captain Marvel. Now it looks like you’ll need to make room for one more major superhero franchise reveal this week, as Collider reports that Sony will be dropping the first trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home this Saturday, December 8.
Collider‘s sources say that Spider-Man: Far From Home will debut during the Sony Panel at Comic-Con Experience in San Paulo, Brazil. While Sony hasn’t made this date explicit yet, their panel at Brazil’s Comic-Con seems like a very logical time to drop the first look at Spidey’s adventures overseas. What makes the Far From Home trailer so intriguing is it’ll be our first look at a Marvel film that takes place after the events of Avengers: Infinity War—a film in which (super belated spoiler alert) Peter Parker (Tom Holland) was killed by Thanos. How do they market a movie where the main character is supposed to be dead? It’s a puzzle Marvel and Sony have solved by now, but one we’re very interested in seeing the solution to.
We’re all expecting Peter Parker to be revived somehow in Avengers 4, along with T’Challa/Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and a slew of other superheroes who were taken out. The thing is, we don’t expect to have that answer until Avengers 4 actually premieres on May 3, 2019, assuming Marvel doesn’t reveal any of our fallen superheroes risen from the ashes in the Avengers 4 trailer. So showing Spidey back in action in a Far From Home trailer before we even see an Avengers 4 trailer seems…problematic? Or at least very interesting.
Spider-Man: Far From Home also stars Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, and Jacob Batalon reprising their roles from Spider-Man: Homecoming, with Jake Gyllenhaal joining the cast as the supervillain Mysterio. Peter Parker isn’t the only person who will be risen from the dead in Far From Home: it’s already been confirmed that Samuel L. Jackson‘s Nick Fury and Coby Smulders‘ Maria Hill will appear.
Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 5, 2019.
