Meet the New Creatures Starring in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

Fantastic Beasts is an exciting extension of the Harry Potter story and locks a few new pieces of the puzzle into place. We will finally get to see the famed maker of the Sorcerer’s Stone, Nagini will be revealed in her human form, and although it won’t appear in Crimes of Grindelwald, the battle of the Elder Wand is looming. However, the wizards may draw our attention, but it’s really all about those beasts and how fantastic they are. A new featurette for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald gives us a short crash course on Newt’s newest friends.

I don’t have my Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them textbook in front of me, so I might botch the spelling on these names, but they look fun nonetheless. Screenwriter and producer J.K. Rowling is most excited about the kelpy. It’s a seaweed like water dweller that has a wild disposition. The only way to domesticate the creature is to take a ride on its back. This one isn’t for any of you landlubbers.

One of the regaler animals is a Zouwu who really gets around. The mystical lion-like creature can travel 1,000 miles in a day. We aren’t sure how he gets up to those speeds, but it will be exciting to see him on the move.

If you had some favorites from the first film, never fear. Many of them will return like Newt’s Bowtruckly, Pickett. The small leafy guy is back for another adventure and as adorable as ever. And, of course, everyone’s favorite obsession will not be left out. The Niffler is back, and this time he isn’t alone. The cutest thief in wizarding world is back with a new sticky-fingered family. Yes, the Niffler had babies and they are impossibly cute.

So, now that we know the basics, where can we sign up for the next Care of Magical Creatures course? We’re ready to graduate to the next level.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald opens in theaters on November 16.
