Tom Holland Shares new Black & Red Spidey Suit in Spider-Man: Far From Home Image
Filming has officially wrapped on Spider-Man: Far From Home, and to honor the occasion star Tom Holland has shared an image of Spidey’s new black and red suit. Holland took to Instagram to mark the end of Far From Home‘s production, posting an image of himself in the new suit next to co-star Zendaya, who plays Michelle ‘MJ’ Jones. The new black and red suit is not only eye-catching, it begs several questions. Considering that Far From Home takes place after Infinity War, where (spoiler-alert) Spider-Man was one of the many victims of the Thanos snap, one could be forgiven for wondering if the black and red suit has something to do with whatever Peter Parker went through, both when he was turned into dust and presumably when he was resurrected. It brings to mind another famous, red-clad superhero donning a black suit—Superman. In “The Death of Superman” DC Comics series, the Man of Steel wore what is now his iconic black suit (which is about to make its TV debut when Tyler Hoechlin wears it during the CW’s big Arrowverse crossover event). Does the black in Spidey’s new suit have something to do with his death? Or, is it yet another upgrade by his mentor and benefactor Tony Stark?

One fan even rendered the costume to give you a better sense of what it might look like on the big screen. There’s talk that the new suit could be inspired by comic artist and writer Steve Ditko’s take on Spider-Man, or the more recent Superior Spider-Man costume, which was worn by Otto Octavius when he took over Peter Parker’s body.
Obviously, we’re deep into speculation nation over here, as we were when we wondered whether this video clip meant that Spider-Man villain Hydro-Man would be in the film. What we do know is that Spider-Man won’t be the same fresh-faced kid we met in Captain America: Civil War and then in both Spider-Man: Homecoming and Infinity War. The young man has been through a lot, and the black and red suit just might indicate he’s changed.
Spider-Man: Far From Home is directed by Jon Watts. Joining Holland and Zendaya are Jacob Batalon (Ned), Jake Gyllenhaal (Quentin Beck), Marisa Tomei (May Parker), Tony Revolori (Flash Thompson), Numan Acar (Dimitri), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), and Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill).
Spider-Man: Far From Home opens on July 5th, 2019
