Sylvester Stallone is a Cowboy in First Photo From Rambo 5
John Rambo has clearly been trying to lead the simple life these past few years. It was a decade ago when we last saw him in Rambo (technically Rambo 4) when he joined a group of mercenaries and plunged into war-torn Burma to rescue some Christian aid workers. Consider that this all happened 26-years after we met him in First Blood, as a Vietnam veteran forced to use his combat skills to fight off a bunch of bad guys who made the mistake of menacing him in some mountains. That lead to First Blood: Part II (Rambo heads back to Vietnam), Rambo III (Rambo heads to Afghanistan to fight the Soviets), and then Rambo 4, and now…Cowboy Rambo?
Sylvester Stallone, who it should go without saying is John Rambo, has shared a pair of images from behind the scenes of Rambo 5 as filming is set to begin. The story reportedly revolves around Rambo’s last mission; to save a friend’s daughter by rescuing her from a Mexican cartel. Your director is Adrian Grunberg (Get the Gringo), with a script from Stallone and Matthew Cirulnick, and based on the characters created by David Morrell.
Stallone captions one of the images with “Comes a Horseman,” which is perhaps a nod to the Jane Fonda, James Caan Western from 1978. Fonda and Caan played ranchers being squeezed by an economic downturn and the wily machinations of a ruthless land baron. Take from that what you will.
Although Rambo 5 has been delayed a few times now, it looks as if things are coming together. You may be seeing Stallone in his second most famous role from the 1980s back on the big screen in 2019.
