Listen to John Carpenter’s Revamped Halloween Theme

We caught the midnight screening of Halloween at the Toronto Film Festival and we loved it. Loved. It. Writer/director David Gordon Green and his co-writers Danny McBride and Jeff Fradley have delivered a delicious, terrifying coda to the practically mythical clash between Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Michael Myers (James Jude Courtney). The slasher flick is both a loving tribute to John Carpenter’s iconic original and a worthy follow-up. Now, we’ve got the new theme song from Carpenter, his son Cody and Daniel Davies, which is a scintillating tweak to the original.

This theme song is a lot like the new film; it harkens back to the original and what made it so creepy while opening new vistas of terror for what’s to come. We also recently found out that the Halloween team was actually considering re-shooting the original film’s ending and opening the new film with it, but ultimately decided against this tact. Green revealed to Bloody Disgusting that the original plan was to open with Dr. Loomis shooting Michael back in 1978: “Even in the script going into production, we were going to refilm the end of the original film from a different perspective,” Green revealed. “We had this very complicated overhead view of Loomis shooting the gun, Michael going over and then the apprehension, assuming everybody was going to need a little bit to get back up to speed with where we are and we haven’t seen the movie in a long time or we’ve never seen the movie, had to invite everyone to the party and that kind of thing.”

You’ll have to go see the film for yourself to see how Green, his filmmakers, and the exceptional cast connect this story to Carpenter’s game-changing original but be forewarned; this Halloween is just as nasty, if not nastier, than Carpenter’s slasher masterpiece.
