Frozen 2 Adds Evan Rachel Wood and Sterling K. Brown to the Cast

The cast of Frozen 2 just got two major additions. The sequel to Disney’s juggernaut animated film already had an exceptional cast—Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, and Josh Gad are all returning as Elsa, Anna, and Olaf, respectively. Now Westworld star Evan Rachel Wood and This is Us and Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Sterling K. Brown are joining the ensemble. We have no idea who they’ll be playing, as Frozen 2‘s plot is still a state secret.

What we can be sure about is that Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck’s sequel will be big. Their first film was a world-beating smash, begetting a Broadway musical, the shorts Frozen Fever and Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, and capturing the imagination of an entire generation of young viewers—and their parents. And uncles. And aunts. And grandparents. Okay the entire family was bewitched by the story of sisters Elsa and Anna and their magical predicaments and weather-related mishaps. Both Wood and Brown are major talents, and their addition to the cast has us eager to find out how Lee and Buck are going to followup on their breakout film.

What’s interesting is that Frozen 2 now has colossal expectations, whereas the first film came out of nowhere to become a global phenomenon. Will we get any more information at Comic-Con? Possibly. There’s also speculation that Disney will release some kind of teaser when Ralph Breaks the Internet bows on November 21. Six years will have passed between Frozen and Frozen 2, meaning an entire new generation of kids will get a chance to fall in love with Elsa and Anna all over again.

Wood and Brown are fresh off receiving Emmy nominations—joining the Frozen 2 cast is a pretty sweet way to cap off a great week. Who they’ll play will remain a mystery for some time, however—Frozen 2 doesn’t open until November 27, 2019, and it’ll be some time before we get a peek at a proper trailer.
