Steve Carell Puts the Pieces Back Together in Welcome to Marwen Trailer

Robert Zemeckis is one of the great filmmakers of our generation. With the Back to the Future movies, Forrest Gump, and Cast Away all in his film library, when Zemeckis takes on a new project, we’re all in. Now, with the trailer for his next project, Welcome to Marwen, out, we’re even more excited for what’s to come.

Welcome to Marwen stars Steve Carell as Mark Hogancamp, an artist and victim of an attack by Nazis that has left him with both incredible injuries and a case of post-traumatic stress disorder. To cope, he built a village in his yard of his dolls set in World War II. All of his dolls are based on real people in his life, and the storyline that the dolls follow is intertwined with his real life. There are scenes in the trailer where the line between real and imaginary becomes blurred and the dolls take a life of their own.

The trailer looks amazing, with the CG characters blending in seamlessly with the real life backdrop. Carell, one of the best actors working today, looks to give another strong performance. With this kind of talent in front of and behind the camera, Welcome to Marwen could be the next Zemeckis Classic.

Putting together pieces from his old and new life, Mark meticulously creates a wondrous town where he can heal and be heroic. As he builds an astonishing art installation—a testament to the most powerful women he knows—through his fantasy world, he draws strength to triumph in the real one.
Welcome to Marwen is scheduled for a November 21 release.
