Star Wars Actor Reveals at Least Nine More Films are in Development
Star Wars fans, rejoice! It looks like there won’t be another movieless black hole after the current trilogy concludes. As a veteran voice actor for the saga has confirmed, there could be nine or more future releases as Disney continues to push the universe in new directions.
The news comes from Tom Kane, the man who provides a voice for the character Yoda in the Clone Wars television show and multiple video game series. Most recently, he voiced Admiral Ackbar in The Last Jedi. Kane was speaking at the All Star Comic Con in Virginia, as reported by this Star Wars podcast host on Twitter:
Tom Kane seems to be somewhat in the know but very hesitant to share.. claims there are at least 9 Star Wars films in various stages of development, some individual character stories yet to be announced, but definitely not Yoda. #StarWars #AllStarComicCon

While it’s a bit of a letdown that we won’t be getting a Yoda origin story, which would probably be more mythic than any other Star Wars film, there’s still a lot to look forward to. While the phrase “in development” is not nearly synonymous with “definitely being made,” it’s safe to say we’ll receive at least several of these developing titles on the big screen in the coming years. So far, we know that Episode IX is bound to hit theaters, with a James Mangold directed Boba Fett spinoff likely to follow. Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are also set to write and direct a series, and The Last Jedi writer/director Rian Johnson has a green light to design a trilogy of his own.
Even if Disney picks up all of these stories, there’s still a few blank spaces to fill a roster of nine upcoming movies, and there’s always the possibility that even more Star Wars stories will come to life in the future. As long as us fans keep clamoring for more, it’s likely that we’ll eventually see what we demand, whether it’s a Kenobi spinoff or a Knights of the Old Republic TV series. Heck, if we wait long enough, we might even get the whole galaxy to explore on VR.
Episode IX arrives from a galaxy far, far away on December 20, 2019.
