The Baryonyx, Indoraptor & Mosasaurus Star in new Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Spot

Yesterday we shared this new Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom featurette which revealed that director J.A. Bayona’s film has more dinosaurs than every other film in the franchise—combined. Now Universal has released a new TV spot that features three of the film’s marquee prehistoric stars—the genetically modified indoraptor, the baryonyx, and returning champion, the colossal, aquatic mosasaurus. While the Jurassic franchise has two undisputed kings—the T-Rex and the velociraptor—you may recall that in Jurassic World, it was the mosasaurus which delivered the much needed kill shot to the Indominus Rex, that film’s genetically modified apex predator. In the new spot, you’ll see the mosasaurus getting in a little late afternoon surfing, which is a pity for the actual surfers sharing the wave with the beast.

Yet it seems like Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom‘s most terrifying new creation is the indoraptor, which star Chris Pratt calls “a psychopathic, murderous beast.” Granted, the real villains of any Jurassic film are the humans, who foolishly try to play god and use the dinosaurs to their own ends, with consistently catastrophic results. Fallen Kingdom takes that premise and invests it with what looks like Bayona’s marquee talent for horror. The storyline revolves around a dormant volcano roaring to life and threatening the dinosaurs of Isla Nublar, forcing Owen (Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) to mount a campaign to rescue them. Yet their mission soon uncovers a conspiracy that could, in the words of the official synopsis, “return our entire planet to a perilous order not seen since prehistoric times.” We know that the indoraptor, like the Indominus Rex before it, is not a “natural” dinosaur (as natural as you can be when you’re genetically coaxed back to life many millennia after your extinction), but another modified super-predator that will wreck havoc on Owen and Claire’s lives, and everybody else’s in the film.

Check out the new spot below. Pratt and Howard are joined by James Cromwell, Ted Levine, Justice Smith, Geraldine Chaplin, Daniella Pineda, Toby Jones, Rafe Spall and Isabella Sermon, while BD Wong and Jeff Goldblum reprise their roles.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom opens on June 22.

Welcome to “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.”
