Watch the Moment Han Meets Lando in new Solo Clip
There are likely very few Star Wars fans who weren’t thrilled when they heard the polymathic talent Donald Glover would be playing the young Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Since Glover’s casting was announced every new bit of footage we’ve seen of Lando has reinforced the notion that this was, to put it mildly, a role he was born to play. Now, a new clip from the film shows us the moment that Han (Alden Ehrenreich) meets Lando, and once again Glover’s easy charm and abundance of charisma imbues his young Lando with just the right mix of mystery and élan.
Their first encounter happens, famously, over a game of sabaac. When they meet, Lando is officially a captain—of a little ship called the Millennium Falcon—whereas Han is just Han, a young, inexperienced but talented pilot comfortable taking risks. The clip shows us just the first 50-seconds or so of their very first face-to-face, building, no doubt, to the moment where Han gets Lando to bet the Falcon, and lose. You’ll also notice Chewie (Joonas Suotamo) lingering in the shadows (as much as a Wookie can linger).
In the second clip we’ve got for you, another one focused on the games of the galaxy, you’ll be enjoying some classic holochess with Tobias (Woody Harrelson) and Chewie, with the former beating up on the latter…on the holochess board, of course. Tobias tries to make the game a teachable moment for Chewie, but, we get the feeling the lesson is being lost on him.
And finally, we’re including the great skit from last weekend’s SNL, in which Glover hosted and gifted us this great sketch showing us Lando headlining a conference for black humans in outer space. There are four.
Solo: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on May 25.
