Statement by MPAA Chairman and CEO Charles Rivkin on the 2018 USTR Special 301 Report

April 27, 2018

WASHINGTON – The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) today released its annual Special 301 Report, reviewing the global state of intellectual property rights protection and enforcement. The following is a statement from Charles Rivkin, Chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), on the new report.

“America’s film and television industry is one of the most highly competitive global industries, generating a positive trade surplus of $12.2 billion and supporting 2.1 million U.S. jobs here at home. And yet, American creators still face significant challenges in foreign markets protecting and enforcing their intellectual property rights, especially in the form of online piracy.

“By drawing attention to these issues, today’s Special 301 Report reflects the Administration’s commitment to enforcing our nation’s intellectual property and advancing our competitiveness on the global stage. The MPAA commends USTR and the interagency for issuing this report. We look forward to continuing to work with them to protect creators’ rights and promote our nation’s creative economy.”
