WASHINGTON – The production of Universal Pictures’ Pitch Perfect 3 led to a major boost to Georgia’s local economy, according to recent data from the studio. The film generated over $19.9 million in local economic activity – hiring over 6,000 local workers, who took home more than $9.5 million in wages.

Pitch Perfect 3, the latest chapter in the popular Pitch Perfect series, hits theaters this week. The film spent 46 shoot days on location in Georgia, with a significant portion of the production spending benefiting a wide array of in-state businesses and industries. Key expenditures included:

  • More than $5.9 million on local rentals and purchases, including shipping, office supplies, parking, customized props, storage warehouses, and other supplies.
  • More than $1 million on transportation, including truck and car rentals.
  • More than $690,000 on local catering and other food items for the cast and crew.
  • More than $680,000 on hardware and lumber supplies.
  • More than $310,000 on lodging.
  • More than $280,000 on local wardrobe and dry cleaning.

“During the holidays, families and friends often visit their local theaters to enjoy the films of the season,” said MPAA Chairman and CEO Charles H. Rivkin. “I’m excited that many of these moviegoers will see what Georgia’s creative workers and businesses can do. Georgia continues to be a hub for film production, generating millions for the local economy and supporting increasing numbers of jobs across the state. Thanks to leadership from the governor and state legislature, film and television productions will continue to be a vital part of the livelihoods of local communities.”

Deputy Commissioner of the Georgia Film Office Lee Thomas said, “We were thrilled to have Pitch Perfect 3 film in Georgia. The production hired 6,265 Georgians as cast, crew and extras, they worked with local studios, supported local business, and spurred the state’s economy by almost $20 million. Because of the popularity of the Pitch Perfect series we have the opportunity to boost Georgia’s global recognition as the film is seen by millions of film fans all over the world.”

“Georgia offers film producers unparalleled scenery, resources and a workforce that stands ready to help turn screenplays into movie magic,” U.S. Representative Doug Collins (GA-9) said, “My neighbors understand the job opportunities and economic benefits that the film industry brings, and we welcome them. That’s why I’ve worked to support policies that promote the growth of this creative industry in our state and nation.”
