MPAA Chairman Senator Chris Dodd Receives UCFTI Outstanding Contribution & Leadership Award at Golden Screen Awards
LOS ANGELES – Senator Chris Dodd, Chairman of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), received the United States-China Film and Television Industry (UCFTI) Outstanding Contribution & Leadership Award in recognition of his significant work in building the strong relationship between the U.S. and Chinese film industries.
During the seven years of Senator Dodd’s tenure at the MPAA, China has grown to become the second largest theatrical box office market in the world. This growth was spurred by an MOU signed between the United States and China in 2012, which expanded the opportunities for U.S. films to be released in the Chinese market. The MPAA has also supported a wide range of film industry exchange activities, including film workshops, screenings, and training programs to share knowledge and encourage dialogue between the two countries.
Presenting the Award, Mike Medavoy, Chairman and CEO of Phoenix Pictures, said, “I want to congratulate Bianca Chen and the U.S. China Film and Television Industry Expo for honoring my dear friend and colleague Senator Chris Dodd with this most prestigious award. I can’t think of anyone more deserving as its recipient when you look at the extraordinary evolution of collaboration and cooperation between Hollywood and China under Chris’ tenure at the MPAA. The realization of his vision of these two giants working together to further the growth of the entertainment industry will last forever.”
Accepting the Award, Senator Dodd, said, “I am honored to receive the UCFTI Outstanding Contribution & Leadership Award, and proud of the incredible progress we have made together to advance the U.S.-Chinese film relationship during my tenure at the MPAA. More than ever, it is of critical importance that we continue to build a close relationship between China and the United States by coming together over an art form that has the ability to educate, stimulate, and entertain people all over the planet.”
The Golden Screen Awards was established in 2016 by UCFTI, with support from the China Film Co-Production Corporation (CFCC), the Motion Picture Association (MPA) and The Hollywood Reporter, to reward and recognize outstanding organizations, producers, directors, screenwriters, actors, composers, and technical professionals who have contributed to China-foreign co-productions.
The Awards officially opens the annual week-long China International Co-Production Film Screenings and forums to highlight the achievements of the U.S. and Chinese film industries during 2017. The Golden Screen Awards was held at the Novo, LA Live.
