Statement from MPAA Chairman and CEO Senator Chris Dodd on the confirmation of Wilbur Ross as Secretary of Commerce
WASHINGTON – The following is a statement from Senator Chris Dodd, Chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America, on the confirmation of Wilbur Ross as Secretary of Commerce.
“The MPAA congratulates Wilbur Ross on his confirmation as Secretary of Commerce. The film and television industry is a key driver of the U.S. economy, supporting two million jobs and 88,000 businesses across all 50 states, while generating $17.8 billion in exports. The Commerce Department plays a critical role in fostering vibrant creative industries through the United States Patent and Trademark Office’s commitment to establishing and enforcing strong copyright protections, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration’s work to expand legitimate digital trade, and the International Trade Administration’s efforts to improve access to foreign markets for American films, television shows, and other creative works. The MPAA looks forward to working with Secretary Ross and his Commerce Department colleagues.”
