What We Know About the X-Force Film
While we’re all still semi-patiently waiting to see what happens when Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) meets the time-traveling super soldier Cable (Josh Brolin) in the upcoming Deadpool 2, the two diametrically opposed superheroes will likely be starring in the ensemble film X-Force. Director Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods, Deadpool 2 screenwriter) is helming this super-sized film, which will likely reunite Deadpool and Cable after whatever shenanigans they get into in Deadpool 2. The only synopsis we’ve heard thus far is that Cable will assemble a team of mutants to help prevent the shattered future he comes form. The X-Force is essentially a Black Ops force, made up of deadly mutants who are willing to do the dirty jobs that are too morally questionable for the relatively more stable X-Men. It’s likely that another Deadpool 2 newbie, the mutant assassin Domino (Atlanta‘s awesome Zazie Beetz) will be on the team as well.
While there’s not a ton known at this point, Digital Spy lead us to this Production Weekly update, which reports that X-Force is set to begin filming this October, with Reynolds and Brolin returning in their respective roles. Take this with a grain of salt for now, however, as nothing is officially confirmed.
So what do we know? The X-Force, as it has existed in the comics, has been made up of a bunch of superheroes that we’ve seen in recent films, as well as a few who will be starring in Josh Boone’s upcoming New Mutants, the X-Men spinoff that will be the franchise’s first step in the horror direction (it’s due out on February 22, 2019). The X-Force has included: Colossus (which could mean Deadpool star Stefan Kapiči will return), Psylocke (Olivia Munn played her in X-Men: Apocalypse), the aforementioned Domino, Shatterstar, Wolfsbane (Game of Thrones‘ Maisie Williams plays her in New Mutants), Danielle Moonstar (played by Blu Hunt in New Mutants), Archangel (played by Ben Hardy in X-Men: Apocalypse) and X-23 (played by Dafne Keen in Logan).
We may learn quite a bit more about the future of X-Force once Deadpool 2 hits theaters on May 18. We already got a brief glimpse of what appeared to be the X-Force in the last trailer. In that split-second shot, we saw Terry Crews, rumored to be playing either Hammer or G.W. Bridge, and Shatterstar, who Colossus actor Stefan Kapiči confirmed was in Deadpool 2.
