Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s Andy Serkis Says Snoke More Powerful Than Vader & the Emperor
In a new Collider Jedi Council, Star Wars aficionados Kristian Harloff, Ken Napzok, Tiffany Smith and Mark Reilly discuss all things The Last Jedi, including news on Supreme Leader Snoke’s (Andy Serkis) role as the new trilogy’s potent, mysterious new super villain. When asked whether Snoke is more powerful than the infamous Sith Lords, Darth Vader and the Emperor, Andy Serkis responded, “Oh, without question. He has unlimited resources.” Although vague, this bold statement paints a picture of Snoke’s potential power and influence as the Supreme Leader of the First Order. We’ve already learned, however, what Snoke is not—a Sith Lord.
Snoke’s ominous and towering presence has hung over the minds of fans since his brief appearance in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. His crippling, wrinkled and scared physicality is part of his duality—he appears both frail and yet immensely powerful. In The Last Jedi, Snoke will appear in flesh-and-blood form, and we may finally see him utilize his ambiguous powers. What we saw of him in The Force Awakens made apparent that he has one very Emperor-like power—manipulation. He was, after all, the one who lured Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) over to the Dark Side with his “puppet master” like abilities. Host Kristian Harloff opines that Snoke seems to be like a Voldemort type of villain, in which “he is just trying to get his body stronger, stronger and stronger and more powerful throughout the years.” After manipulating Kylo to join the Dark Side, it can only be assumed that Snoke will try to pull Rey from the Resistance and exploit her powers. In fact, that was the thrust of this teaser, which seemed to want us to believe Rey might be willing to consider joining her temporarily vanquished foe, Ren, and fight on the side of the First Order. While that seems highly unlikely, all the actors involved in The Last Jedi have said, time and time again, that Rian Johnson’s script takes their characters in new and very surprising directions.
We’ll find out on December 15, when Star Wars: The Last Jedi finally premieres, what Snoke’s “unlimited resources” mean for our heroes.
