Poe and Finn Lead new Star Wars: The Last Jedi “Heroes” Spot
We’re officially less than a month away from Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and while its unlikely we’ll get any major reveals between now and then, there are some new, shiny things for us to paw at while we await the December 15 premiere date. One of those things is this new TV spot, titled “Heroes,” which is focused on Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and Finn (John Boyega). These two old buddies were in very different places when we met then in The Force Awakens. Poe’s been a stud X-Wing pilot from the jump, he was the very first character we met in the new trilogy, bravely fighting against Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and trying to save peoples lives, already a legend within the Resistance. Finn, of course, was a nameless, mindless Stormtrooper (technically he went by FN-2187) in that very same scene, one whose job it was to carry out whatever orders he was given, including killing innocent, helpless villagers at Kylo Ren’s command. Yet Finn wasn’t mindless, and he was so sickened by what he was being forced to do that he revolted, ultimately helping Poe escape Ren, which resulted in Poe giving Finn his name and inspiring him to become something else.
In The Last Jedi, these two are major players within the Resistance, and the new spot highlights just how far along Finn has come. In both the title and in the new footage and dialogue, its clear that Finn is every bit the hero Poe has always been, and the two are going to be major factors in Rey’s (Daisy Ridley) quest to help the Resistance topple the First Order. If there’s a single sequence that shows just how different a man Finn is from the shaking, terrified Stormtrooper we met in the beginning of The Force Awakens, it’s that fantastic face-to-silver-helmet battle he has with Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie).
Again, The Last Jedi opens on December 15. If you haven’t gotten your tickets yet, may the Force be with you.
