A Quiet Place: Part II’s Super Bowl Ad Packs a Big Surprise
For those of us who are more than a little bit excited for writer/director John Krasinski‘s A Quiet Place: Part II, Paramount Pictures has done us a solid. The studio has released its upcoming Super Bowl spot early, giving us a glimpse at Krasinski’s follow-up to his surprising creature-feature smash hit from 2018. Krasinski co-starred in the original film alongside his real-life wife, Emily Blunt, as Lee and Evelyn Abbott respectively, the parents of Marcus and Regan (Noah Jupe and Millicent Simmonds) who were trying to keep themselves and their children alive in a post-apocalyptic world dominated by sound-hunting aliens. Krasinski’s character died in that film, sacrificing himself in order to save his children. Which is why this ad is so surprising; Krasinski’s Lee is back—in flashback form, of course.

What we’ve learned from the above, and the previous (excellent) trailer, is that Evelyn and the kids are now stepping out into the larger world—quietly, of course—where they encounter more survivors. Only it turns out that many of the humans still left alive are not exactly welcoming to strangers, and A Quiet Place: Part II will explore not only the origins of the monster’s arrival but also how other people have been dealing with them.
Those other survivors include characters played by Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou, two excellent additions to the cast. It’s never easy following up on a hit, and it’s doubly difficult when that hit felt so bracingly original and surprising, but we’re betting Krasinski will pull it off. Especially with Blunt in the lead role; she’s an extremely compelling presence in any film, and she was flat-out fantastic as the ferociously protective Evelyn. Watching how she manages to keep her kids safe in the larger world will be one of the chief joys of A Quiet Place: Part II.
You can catch Krasinski’s sequel on March 20, 2020.
Here’s the official synopsis.
Following the deadly events at home, the Abbott family (Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe) must now face the terrors of the outside world as they continue their fight for survival in silence. Forced to venture into the unknown, they quickly realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path.
