Poe Dameron Flies the Millennium Falcon in new Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker Image
At long last, the best pilot in the galaxy gets to fly its most famous ship. In a new image from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Entertainment Weekly shares this look at Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) flying the Millennium Falcon. He looks…thrilled? Terrified? Surprised at the old bucket’s umph? We’d argue it’s a little bit of all three. His co-pilot is Chewbacca (Joonas Suotamo), while Finn (John Boyega) rides alongside them, looking somewhat concerned.
We are a mere month away from the 9th and final installment in the Skywalker Saga. These little bits of fresh information about J.J. Abrams The Rise of Skywalker are likely all we’re going to get before the film premieres on December 20. Dameron has been the Resistance’s best pilot since we first met him in Abrams’ new trilogy opener The Force Awakens. Yet he’s never flown the Falcon—that honor was returned to Han Solo (Harrison Ford) for a brief bit during Force Awakens, then turned over to Rey (Daisy Ridley), who along with her Force skills is a crack pilot. Poe Dameron getting a turn in the cockpit of the most storied ship in the entire Skywalker Saga is a nice twist. While he’s temperamentally Han Solo’s opposite—Poe is enthusiastic and mostly optimistic whereas Han was legendarily cheeky and cynical—the two men share a love of flying.
We also know that Poe won’t be the only one flying the Falcon in The Rise of Skywalker; there’s also the ship’s original owner back in the fold. Billy Dee Williams reprises his role as Lando Calrissian, and we already know he’ll be getting back into the saddle of the ship he lost to Han in a game of sabaac.
